Delivering to Darent Valley Hospital: what to know
Should my specimen go to Darent Valley or Medway?
Whichever laboratory the requesting clinician names. The North Kent Pathology Service combined the labs of Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust and Medway NHS Foundation Trust, with the hub here and a satellite laboratory at Medway Maritime Hospital. The labs run a 24-hour blood sciences service for urgent work and on-call microbiology. You package specimens as UN3373 before collection, and declare any Category A substance, dry ice or other dangerous goods when you enquire. We do not carry blood or blood products.
How quickly can you get there?
Darent Valley sits beside Bluewater, reached from junction 2 of the M25 and the A2, then the A225 Princes Road, which makes it one of the easier Kent hospitals to reach by motorway. From Maidstone it is around 20 to 25 miles via the M20 and A2, or the M26 and M25. For most jobs the driver goes straight there, not via a depot.
What else can you bring?
Equipment spares for a stopped analyser or scanner, theatre instrument sets and loan kit, and clinical documents, on anything from a motorcycle to a van or larger vehicle. Tell us the department and a named contact; you get live updates and proof of delivery with their name and the time. Cover up to £100 is standard; if the item is worth more, tell us its value and, where extra cover can be arranged, we confirm the level and any cost before you accept.
